Ecological Restoration Technician

Based in Minnetonka, MN
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Full time weekday work hours, 4 x 10 hour shifts depending on weather and sunrise/sunset. If there is a rain-out earlier in the week, then we work Friday.
Pay: Starting $15-17/hr, depending on experience
General Duties
We’re seeking full-time restoration technicians to work in locations throughout the Twin Cities metro area, primarily based in the west metro, working on large- and small- scale buckthorn removal/native habitat restoration projects. Work includes control of invasive species and maintaining natural plant habitat areas on residential properties, including: cutting and treating buckthorn with herbicide, managing brush, spraying weeds with backpack sprayers, pulling weeds, planting and caging trees and shrubs, seeding, driving an ATV, operating chainsaw, and recordkeeping. W2 basis, paid every other week. Full time, year-round, ideally.
Required Qualifications
Must care about saving native plants
Must be eligible to work in the United States
Must be capable to learn to identify plant species year round, including shrubs and trees in winter (we will train you)
Must be able to learn pesticide application material and acquire license before starting (we provide the books and license fees)
Must be respectful
Must be able to work outdoors during varying weather conditions (heat/cold/rain)
Must be able to work in a wide range of field conditions (steep terrain, insects, mud, thorns)
Must be able to carry moderate amounts of weight (40 lbs)
Must be willing to learn new skills
Must have attention to detail in repetitive work
Must be able to lift and carry brush repeatedly
Must be able to work on hands and knees, and stand/kneel repeatedly
Must have flexibility and access to reliable transportation to get job sites
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be willing and able to operate chainsaws effectively and safely
Must have sturdy work boots, gloves, tough pants and shirts for thorny woods
Desired Qualifications:
Basic knowledge of common Minnesota native plants and weeds
General natural resources knowledge
Experience working in native habitat restoration, or tree care
Ability to identify different native and non-native tree species
Interest in invasive species management and native landscape restoration
Experience operating chain saws safely and effectively
Experience driving a pickup truck and trailer, especially in reverse

Field Assistant

Based in Minnetonka, MN
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Weekdays, 20-40 hours as needed. 4 x 10 hour shifts Mon-Thurs. Friday, if we have a bad weather day earlier in the week.
Pay: $13/hr
General Duties
We’re seeking field assistants to work in locations throughout the Twin Cities metro area, primarily based in Minnetonka, working on large- and small- scale buckthorn removal and woodland restoration projects. Work includes assisting with control of invasive species and maintaining natural plant habitat areas on city and residential properties, including: piling and moving brush, planting and caging trees and shrubs, and pulling weeds. W-2 basis, paid every other week. Potential for hire full time.
This job is very physically demanding. If you aren't physically able to haul logs and brush over your shoulder up and down slopes with obstacles and tripping hazards for most of the day, please consider a different job. You will be assisting our restoration specialists as they operate equipment and apply herbicides.
Due to COVID-19, we are taking precautions to protect ourselves and others. We will keep at least 6 feet away from each other at all times, sneeze/cough into elbows, and sanitize equipment as needed.

Must have clean driving record
Must be able to drive to the jobsite on time every workday
Must have clean background
Must be able to work outdoors during varying weather conditions (heat/cold/rain)
Must be able to work in a wide range of field conditions (steep terrain, insects, mud, thorns)
Must be able to cheerfully carry moderate amounts of weight uphill and downhill (40 lbs)
Must own a smartphone for communication and clocking in/out
Must be considerate not to damage native plants at the jobsite. Our purpose is to protect them.
Must be able to lift and carry brush repeatedly
Must have excellent lifting/carrying mechanics to avoid injury
Must be willing to wear a forestry helmet all day
Must have flexibility and own reliable transportation to get job sites
Must be at least 16 years of age
Must have sturdy work boots, gloves, tough pants and shirts for thorny woods
