Field Assistant

Do you love to be outdoors, in the woods, interacting with nature? We are seeking help from people who want to save the forest as much as we do!
Hours: Flexible week day work hours, depending on weather and sunrise/sunset
Pay: Starting $15-20/hr, depending on experience
General Duties
We’re seeking temporary, seasonal, or part-time field assistants to work in locations throughout the Twin Cities metro area, primarily based in the west metro, working on large- and small- scale buckthorn removal projects. Work includes assisting with control of invasive species and maintaining natural plant habitat areas on residential properties, including: pulling weeds, cutting and treating stumps with herbicide, piling and moving brush into trailers or chippers, operating a chipper, planting and caging trees and shrubs, and spot-treating stumps with herbicide. W2 basis, paid every other week. Potential for hire full time, year-round.
Required Qualifications
Must care about saving native plants
Must be eligible to work in the United States
Must be able to work outdoors during varying weather conditions (heat/cold/rain)
Must be able to work in a wide range of field conditions (steep terrain, insects, mud, thorns)
Must be able to carry moderate amounts of weight (40 lbs)
Must be willing to learn new skills
Must have attention to detail in repetitive work
Must be able to lift and carry brush repeatedly
Must be able to work on hands and knees, and stand/kneel repeatedly
Must have flexibility and access to reliable transportation to get job sites
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must have sturdy work boots, gloves, tough pants and shirts for thorny woods
Desired Qualifications
Basic knowledge of common Minnesota native plants and weeds
General natural resources knowledge
Experience working in native habitat restoration, horticulture, tree care, or landscaping
Ability to identify different native and non-native tree species
Interest in invasive species management and native landscape restoration
Experience operating chain saws safely and effectively
Experience driving a pickup truck and trailer, especially in reverse
